Grand reunion as Kericho woman finds father after 21 years of search

Kericho woman's 21 year search of father ends in grand reunion after TUKO.co.ke highlighted story

After living in the dark on her father's whereabouts for 21 years, Joan Jepkoech finally met her dad in an emotional re-union in Kericho county.

Jepkoech who was first approached by her father's sister could not hide her joy when she finally met him together with her step-siblings who were also eager to see her.

This was after The Evening Post highlighted Jepkoech's desperate desire to see her dad again after her parents went separate ways while she was only six-years old.

"I have found my father, I am so excited to know him, we look alike and I am convinced he is the one," said an elated Jepkoech.

After her story was highlighted, one of her uncles came across the video and shared it with his sister who he thought knew the woman better since they shared their childhood.

At first sight, her instincts told her Jepkoech was their kin and undertook to find her long lost niece without wasting time.

"I received the video from my brother who asked me to check if I could identify anyone in it, when I watched it, I saw her photo and since I knew her name, I immediately realised they were our children," narrated Jepkoech's aunt.

To be sure the person she was seeing was indeed her niece, she checked out photos of her mother whom she identified in a split second as the woman who would always bring them gifts.

'When I also saw her mothers's photo, I also recognised her immediately because she would always bring us gifts when we were children," she said.

Having social media as her only option to find her niece, Jepkoech's aunt logged into Facebook where she searched for her name and it happened to be the first one to appear on the list.

"So I decided to check her out on Facebook and the first name that came was her's. I immediately sent her a friend request and in-boxed her to accept it," she said.

"The urge I had to tell her she was our child could not let me wait for her to respond to my request so I just kept sending her messages until she responded," she added.

According to her father who was also overwhelmed with emotions at the sight of his all grown-up girl, he gave up searching for his family when he found out his wife had moved on and remarried.

Jepkoech was abandoned by her father 21 years ago and when her story was aired, no one would have thought her lost family would be watching somewhere in Kericho.

The once desperate girl who has been raised by her grandmother was so elated as she immediately picked-up her father's name.

We wish them a happy life together.
