Meet Tyler Onyango, the Kenyan youngster at Everton everyone is talking about

Tyler Onyango

English Premier League side is home to England-born Kenyan youngster Tyler Onyango who, despite the fact that he has been at the club since he was eight, only started to get the attention of the football world last year.

The midfielder, who resembles former Everton and Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini mainly because of his signature mohawk, was until October last year featuring for the

U18s but had a great season with calls for him to be scaled up to the senior team.

He might be just 16 but in October 2019, Everton promoted him to their U23 side and he made his debut as The Toffees drew 1-1 with PSV Eindhoven in the Premier League International Cup.

His Under 18 coach Paul Tait, however, has called for patience with the player, saying he was not a finished product yet and should not be rushed through the development stages as he still has a lot to work on.

“His physicality catches your eye straight away, doesn’t it? He’s 6ft 3in. He’s an absolute machine in terms of his physicality so he catches your eye straight away. His out-of-possession stuff is very good, but I wouldn’t get too carried away. I think we get too carried away sometimes and build these young players up,” Paul told The Liverpool Echo.

“I think he’s still got loads to do, I’ve watched all of his under-23 games and he’s done some good bits and some bits where it’s been a bit too quick for him which is understandable because he’s only 16. But the work we’ve been doing with him is to get him better with his feet. Receiving in tight areas, shifting the ball, switching the play, in tight areas is where he has to get better,” he added.

“Open the pitch up and you can see, he can run, he’s a lovely mover, so on a big pitch, he’s fine. But the work we’ve been doing with him and the work that we have to continue is working in tight areas in midfield.

Tyler has featured four times for the England U17 national team but is yet to play for the senior and is therefore eligible for selection by the Kenyan National team, Harambee Stars.

Expensive Shoes That Sealed Kipchoge's Victory in 1:59 INEOS Challenge [PHOTOS]

After Eliud Kipchoge achieved his dream of running a marathon in under two hours, focus shifted to factors that favoured his win.

Other than the strategies which were deployed by his team, it has emerged that his shoes also played a huge role.

Kipchoge wore the latest model of the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly shoes called the NEXT%. The shoes were customised to aide the 34-year-old athlete in his attempt to achieve the great feat.

According to Footpatrol - an online footwear retailer - the shoes cost 240 sterling pounds which is approximately Ksh31,678.
The shoes boast of Nike’s ultra-light, ultra-responsive ZoomX technology to help with unprecedented levels of responsive cushioning.

It also has a highly-efficient carbon-fibre plate in the midsole which prevents energy loss to power a person's strides.

According to The Telegraph, the shoes are so effective that “there have even been instances of international runners sponsored by other companies wearing the Vaporfly and drawing over them in an attempt to hide the Nike branding.”

Kipchoge became Saturday the first man to run the marathon under two hours after clocking 1:59:40 during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge at Prater Park in Vienna, Austria.

He was assisted by 41 pacemakers  who ran in groups of seven, five were constantly ahead of Kipchoge in a 'V' formation, while two were behind him.

How DeMathew Rose From Hawking Tomatoes to King of Kikuyu Music

Kenyans, on Monday, woke up to tragic news that renown Kikuyu Benga musician, John De' Mathew alias John Ng'ang'a had passed on.

De'Mathew, died in a road crash along the Thika Superhighway on Sunday evening, August 18, 2019, after his car rammed into a lorry near Blue Post Hotel.

He is reported to have released 50 albums during his lifetime most of which centred on love, cultural, political and social messages that resonated well with his huge audience.

According to enthusiasts of the genre, the musician's illustrious career is only comparable to that of the late John Kamaru.

Unknown to many, the late musician's story was that from ashes to glory.

Before his songs started enjoying massive airplay on local radio stations, De'Mathew used to hawk tomatoes at the Nairobi's Korogocho market in the early 1980s.

The late musician attributed his success to his fellow legendary artists Timona Mburu and Joseph Wamumbe whom he lauded for guiding him in his rise to stardom.

Renowned scholar Kanyi Thiong'o's thesis for his Master of Arts in Literature at the University of Nairobi was reportedly on De'Mathew songs.

Thiong'o revealed that he picked on the popular musician due to the quality composition, poetic message and manner of rendition in his songs.

Prior to his death, he was the chairperson of the newly launched Tamco Sacco that aims to uplift the welfare of musicians.

"We want to come together and join a Sacco to pool resources together so that when we die, our families do not resort to harambees to give us a decent send-off," he stated early this year at Thika Greens during the launch.

Among De'Mathew's hits that have enjoyed massive airplay include Property, Ni Wathire Ukindiga, Mene Mene Tekel and Njata Yakwa in which he featured Murang'a County Women Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege.

Amount of Money Harambee Stars Players Pocketed After Beating Tanzania

Harambee Stars players pocketed bonuses worth Ksh 250,000 per player after their stunning 3-2 comeback against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) derby in Cairo, Egypt.

Further details as per Football Kenya Federation reveal that the players reap heavy in other bonuses stipulated to give the boys morale and motivation as they look set to upset the odds and earn a round of 16 berth in the continental showpiece.

Each player will be awarded Ksh 500,000 for participating in the AFCON tourney.

For every win in Cairo, Egypt, every player pockets Ksh 250,000.

They are also to earn Ksh 250,000 for any draw that allows them to progress to the next round.

For instance, a draw against Senegal (our next game), which will allow Kenya to move into the knockout phase will be counted as a win.

The players already pocketed Ksh 250,000 each for participating in their pre-tournament training in Paris, France.

In Group C, Algeria is on six points as Senegal and Kenya are on three apiece, with the Taifa Stars rock bottom with zero despite their battling performance.

Kenya must now fight the battle of their lives on Monday against wounded Senegalese Lions to have a strong case for a knockout slot.

She can also eye the knockout slot if she manages to be among the four best losers in the tournament.

Did Wanyama abandon his father from attending UEFA Champions League final?

Did Wanyama abandon his father from attending UEFA Champions League final?

The conspicuous absence of Victor Wanyama’s father at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the Spanish capital has ignited a hot debate in Kenya as part of the family of Tottenham midfielder arrived in Madrid to watch the UEFA Champions League final.

Wanyama’s mother and his big brother McDonald Mariga who won the biggest tittle in European club with Inter Milan in 2010 were part of the family members present.

Relative to note both football stars, Wanyama and Mariga were mentored into the game by his father Noah Wanyama who once played for the AFC Leopards in the 1980.

However he never made it in football.

His looks of a poor man made him mistreated by security personal when he had gone to watch his son play in a friendly game between Kenya and Dr Congo.

Others have opined that the move that left Wanyama’s father out of the time that made it to Spain may later come as a curse to the sterling footballer.

Matiang'i Orders Deportation of Foreigners Involved in Betting

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, on Monday, ordered for the immediate deportation of foreigners involved in gambling without the relevant work permits.

Speaking during a Betting Control and Licensing Board stakeholders’ forum at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), Matiang'i stated that the government would not allow people to come into the country and engage in unlawful businesses.

He noted that some foreigners had the habit of applying for work permits for different businesses and ended up engaging in gambling.

He warned those running gambling businesses without licenses risked deportation. In his address, Matiang'i directed the State Department for Immigration Gordon Kihalangwa to review the work permits of all foreigners doing business in the country.

With a sense of urgency, he ordered Kihalangwa to present the report by end of business Monday.

Matiang'i noted that betting firms owed Kenya Revenue Authority Ksh26 billion in unpaid taxes while efforts to collect had been frustrated through court processes.

“Poignantly, attempts to recover this amount have not been fruitful because the key industry operators have found refuge in judicial processes where all manner of court orders are sought and issued,” he stated.

He urged gambling firms to pay their dues noting that 90 percent of the betting industry was run by foreigners who were reaping huge profits.

The CS further stated that if it were up to him, he would wind up the betting sector.
