I chose to forgive myself – Babu Owino on regretting DJ Evolve shooting incident

Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has responded to a question on whether he regrets the shooting incident at B-Club that left DJ Evolve hospitalized and critical condition.

Speaking to Capital, the legislator said that the matter was before court which meant that he was not allowed to speak about it.

He went on to say that the shooting incident was a matter between himself and God, and that he had chosen to forgive himself, as he stated that it was not good to for people to dwell on the past, because it’s something they cannot change.

“That matter as you all know, as Kenyans know is a matter that is sub judice. It is a matter that is before a court of law and a matter before a court of law should not be discussed, as much as I would love to discuss and talk about it. Secondly, it is a matter that is between me and God and I chose to forgive myself and I want to tell you, we cannot change the past but we can change the future. Let us focus on what is coming in the foreseeable future, let us not dwell so much in our past because we can’t change it no matter how much we’d wish to change it,” said Babu.

Asked about the controversial reports that revolved around him paying the hospital bill for the victim (DJ Evolve), Babu assured that he will pay the hospital bill, as he refused to comment further on the matter.

“Again I would not wish to dwell on that, matters bills, I will pay and I’ll leave it at that,” he added.

Flashy 25-yr-old woman in trouble for beating up, injuring her ex-boyfriend, 42,

A 25-year-old woman from Kilimani, Nairobi was on Friday, February 7, charged in court with physically assaulting her 42-year-old ex-boyfriend outside the Milimani Law Courts.

Mildred Aoko Okello is said to have beaten up Anti-Jussi Ahveninen on January 7, 2020, when the ex-couple had gone to court for a mention of their child custody case.

On December 13, 2019, the children’s court — through Senior Resident Magistrate G.M. Gitonga — had given Ahveninen temporary custodianship of their daughter as the custody case went on in court.

Aoko was only allowed restricted access to the child over the weekends. The court directed that Aoko could access the child from 10am Saturday to 5:30pm Sunday.

And, on January 7, the former couple appeared in court for a mention of their case, when Aoko allegedly clobbered Ahveninen.

7th of January being a Tuesday, it was Ahveninen’s turn to be with the child. However, after a mention of the case, Aoko refused to hand over their daughter to her father, prompting an argument between the ex-lovers.


During the verbal exchanges and each one’s attempt to grab the child from the other, Aoko is said to have punched Ahveninen in the face leaving him seriously injured.

The ex-boyfriend was also punched in the head and neck, worsening his injuries, a police report said.

After subduing her ex-lover, Aoko managed to have full control of the child.

Ahveninen, who owns a construction company in Nairobi, was forced to seek medical attention at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi, the court was told.

In her defense, Aoko said it was her ex-boyfriend who pushed and attempted to hurt her.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault, and was released by magistrate Michael Ndichu on a cash bail of Ksh30, 000 or a bond of Ksh60, 0000. Aoko is expected back in court on February 21.

The court heard that 25-year-old Aoko, who describes herself as a lawyer and student, walks around accompanied by her four bodyguards.

“On the day of the alleged assault, her bodyguards looked on as Aoko roughed up her ex-lover,” the court was told.

“Aoko drives a top-of-the-range Mercedes Benz, and lives in the leafy Kilimani suburb,” an informant told K24 Digital.

Thugs break into kids’ room and order the girls to go call their parents; a bishop & his wife. What follows will break your heart

A Nakuru-based bishop and his wife have been hospitalised at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital – Nakuru branch, after they were attacked and severely injured by two male thugs on Saturday 1am.

Bishop Paul Gitonga of Voice of Gospel Church in Molo and his spouse, Eunice Gitonga, were attacked using a panga and blunt object respectively. Paul was hacked in the head and arm, whereas Eunice was hit in the head with a metallic rod.

According to Eunice’s brother, Simon Munene, the thugs gained access to the room of the couple’s children — two teenage girls — after breaking the window at Gitonga’s Milimani Estate home in Molo.

“They ordered the girls — who are high school students — to go and bring their parents, particularly Bishop Gitonga. When my brother-in-law went to the children’s room, the thugs ordered he gives them money that he had kept in the house. The bishop said he never stored cash in the house. It was at that point that the criminals brandished a panga and hacked Gitonga in the head and arms. His wife, who had rushed to the room to find out what was happening, was bludgeoned in the head using a blunt object” Simon Munene told K24 Digital.

The girls, however, managed to escape when the thugs were attacking their parents, Munene said.

When neighbours, who had been informed of the incident, arrived at the scene, they found the thugs had already escaped.

Bishop Gitonga and his wife, who were unconscious at the time, were taken to Nairobi Women’s Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Milimani Estate resident, Njoroge Mwangi, told K24 Digital that security has been deteriorating in the area, with several home burglaries reported in the recent past.

Mwangi urged security officers in Molo to increase evening patrols to avert attacks similar to that meted out on Gitonga and his spouse.

“Some residents have been forced to move to other neighbourhoods due to fear of being attacked, or even killed by gangsters,” said Mwangi.

Molo Deputy County Commissioner, David Wanyonyi, confirmed the incident, saying police are looking for the two suspects, who escaped on foot.

WhatsApp Chats Of Son Busted Trying To Scam Father School Fees

One individual was caught by his father on WhatsApp when he tried to scam him into paying more school fees than what was required.

The individual was caught lying when he was talking to his father via popular instant messaging app, WhatsApp. He reaches out to his father, who initially questions why he never contacts him while he is in school.

The son keeps apologizing to the father and swiftly moves to ask for his fees for the semester. He tells the old man that his fees are 89,300 nairas which do not include bank charges of 300 nairas and an additional field trip fee of 30,000 nairas.

What is not known to the son is that his parent called the dean of the school to inquire about the actual amount which is 49,600 nairas. The dean also mentioned that there was no scheduled trip which meant the boy inflated the price up to 70,000 nairas.

The son, quite embarrassed by the surprise, was only left to apologize. His father, however, sent the money he requested to him.

"All we want is for the first born daughter to get a job, a job that her father can't interfere with, because she has been fired from previous jobs when Gachoka starts threatening her employers. If she can get a job, then she will be able to take care of her mother and brother," said our source.

Miguna Meets Ruling Party Boss in Germany

Self-styled National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna on Monday, January 13, met the Chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the governing political party in Berlin, Germany.

Miguna disclosed that he was on a mission to build international solidarity for his cause, having failed in multiple attempts to return to Kenya, despite court orders being issued for the government to facilitate his re-entry.

The fiery barrister shared an image of himself posing with Kai Wegner, the CDU chairman in Berlin and member of the Bundestag (German Federal Parliament) since 2005.

In a conversation with Kenyans.co.ke, Miguna's lawyer, John Khaminwa, had insisted that Miguna's case was a disregard of international human rights laws.

He tore into the government as he accused the state of disobeying over 18 court orders regarding Miguna's return to the country.

"My emphasis was on the disobedience of over 18 court orders on Miguna Miguna. It's unacceptable, the attorney general or a senior official needs to explain, they cannot keep sending junior officers. What is happening to Miguna is immoral and we cannot be proud of it as a nation.

"What are we to do? We are lawyers, we have court orders, we don't have guns or an army," he told this writer after leaving Milimani Law Courts on Friday, January 10.

Khaminwa further stated that the conduct of the two airlines which refused to let Miguna board their flights was not in line with international human rights norms, promising to initiate court proceedings against Lufthansa and Air France.

The two airlines had cited a request from Kenyan authorities while explaining why the exiled lawyer was not allowed to board the flights from Frankfurt, Germany and Paris, France respectively.

"The perception the airlines are giving the public is that Miguna is an international criminal, and they are tarnishing his name and we intend to proceed against them. Under the international human rights norms that is unacceptable," Khaminwa asserted.

On Monday, January 10, Justice John Mativo ordered Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki to submit a written opinion to the court concerning the disobedience of court orders by the government in the matter of Miguna.

He noted that Kariuki could either deliver the written explanation to court himself on Tuesday, January 21 or send a representative.

We Sleep With Dead Bodies -Mortuary Attendant Confesses

Working as a mortician is one last thing one can think of among the many common careers today. To be living but interacting with the dead in a frequented span needs some bit of strong will and before one gets used to the world, they have to undergo some kind of initiation.

For one Sharkan Lucas, a Cameroonian, he had to sleep with the dead it being training for him to familiarize himself with the environment he was getting in. He works at a morgue in Ghana.

The attendant revealed how they sleep with the bodies dropped in their morgue. It is necessary to spend nights with the dead so as not to be fearful of the situation.

It would not be a mere sleep with the dead but rather making love with the bodies. The attendant in an interview confessed to having engaged the dead in sex several times and is a thing he has gotten used to.

He said he could not find love outside the mortuary for the fact that he works in one and hence resorted to compensate for that with dead women.

Youth Dares Uhuru in Bold Video

A Kenyan youth has dared President Uhuru Kenyatta after his New Year's public address.

In the video doing rounds on social media, one Elijah Mokaya, on Wednesday, January 1, challenged Kenyatta to appoint him to clean the polluted Nairobi River, alleging that the team tasked with the mandate did not adhere to the president's directives.

According to Mokaya, pollution of rivers had dragged on for far too long but he had a permanent solution to it.

"Hello and greetings our dear president. You addressed us on New Years and we received your message. However, today, I bring you a sad message, a very shameful message to the leadership of this country.
"The people you delegated to the environment, why have they never cleaned these rivers even when you have given them the resources. The machinery and funds allocated are adequate to clean these rivers," Mokaya, who recorded the video at the banks of Nairobi River wondered.

The young man requested to oversee the cleaning of the river for three months, asking Kenyatta to temporarily halt the jobs of those officials not working and let him create a task force to solve the contentious issue.

"I have a strategy that will clean the Nairobi River in three months. Actually, give me three months, give me the authority. I ask you today, finance me with the resources that you have given these officials who are not performing.

"I will clean Nairobi River and invite you, the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and your entire cabinet we swim across Nairobi River as we open it," Mokaya affirmed.

He further lamented that Kenyatta had never given such courageous Kenyans an opportunity to work in the government

"Mr. President, let me tell you one thing, we, the people you overlook and do not want to consider in your appointments have the solutions. I want to make this river clean but you have not given us an opportunity," he cried out.

A report by Daily Nation in August 2019 stated that research indicated that the Nairobi River was deliberately poisoned by factories, with warnings that a bad precedent was set in early years of Nairobi's urbanisation by allowing raw sewage into the crystal waters.

Further reports indicated that as the river cuts across slums, Mathare, Korogocho and Dandora, wastes are poured into the river through poorly constructed sewer lines.

In 2019, Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko initiated a process to clean the river and in May 2019, 14 dead bodies were discovered in the cleanup process.

Parte After Parte! Two in court over theft of six bottles of Jameson whisky

A driver and a loader have denied charges of stealing beer worth Sh 15,000 from a firm in Embakasi, Nairobi.

They are Daniel Mbugua and Cliff Obonyo.

They are accused of stealing a carton containing six bottles of Jameson – one litre each, from Mitchel Cott Company limited on December 17.

The duo were allegedly seen by other loaders hiding the carton under driver’s seat of their pick-up vehicle. They were later apprehended and taken to Embakasi Police station.

They denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji.

Kithinji freed them on cash bail of Sh 20,000 each and set the hearing of their case for April 28 next year.

Kenyan sex workers tells all about their clients and about the lifestyle

Vivian and Shiko are in the business of selling their flesh. The two have ventured onto the streets as sex workers in the City of Nairobi to ply their trade, which they also conduct on phone.

The two women have been in the business for years now,  and they have come out to speak about the struggles they go through to make their ends meet.

While most of us would rebuke what they do, they narrate their story beginning with why they opted for the job.

“COMMERCIAL SEX WORK IS WORK LIKE ANY OTHER JOB BECAUSE WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS, AND YOU HAVE HOUSE RENT TO TAKE CARE OF, THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN JUST SIT AND EXPECT MONEY TO COME BY YOUR DOOR,” VIVIAN SAID.

She narrated her journey and how she settled into being a sex worker.

“I LIVED IN NAIROBI FOR TWO YEARS LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT BUT TO NO AVAIL. I SOLD MUGUKA (MIRAA) AND EVEN WORKED AS A BAR MAID. WORKING AS A BAR MAID IS WHAT REALLY TRIGGERED ME INTO DOING SEX WORK BECAUSE I USED TO WORK AT NIGHT AND SOMETIMES, I WOULD GO HOME WITHOUT EVEN A COIN TO BUY FOOD. NIKAONA IT’S LIKE MY BOSS WAS TAKING ME FOR GRANTED. I STARTED GETTING CLIENTS FROM THE PLACE, WHICH TO SOME EXTENT WAS FEEDING ME, AND THAT IS HOW I REALISED IT WAS NOT A BAD JOB. THAT IS HOW I STARTED SEX WORK.

RIGHT NOW, I CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR A HOUSE AND EVEN EDUCATE MY KID AS A SINGLE MUM.”

The duo believes that for one to be employed in Kenya, you need to have a godfather, which they did not have, despite efforts to look for a more decent job.

They opted to have their own business that does not require any ‘capital’ other than their body, but “lazima pia ukue umejitambua by carrying your condoms for protection”.

There is a difference between sex work and commercial sex work, and they (Shiko and Vivian) explained it.

“WE ARE NOW COMMERCIAL SEX WORKERS BUT WE STARTED IT VERY LOW BECAUSE FOR ONE TO GET TO WHERE WE ARE, YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH SO MUCH. HARASSMENT BY CITY COUNCIL, SOMETIMES THE CLIENTS DENY YOU YOUR MONEY AND EVEN AT TIMES YOU ARE BEATEN UP.”

So how do they get their clients?

“WHEN YOU ARE IN THE STREET, YOU BECOME A RANDOM SEX WORKER, WHO CAN BE PICKED BY ANYONE. BUT YOU HAVE YOUR REGULAR CLIENTS WHO CALL YOU TO THEIR HOMES OR ANY PLACE, SO LONG AS IT IS FIT FOR THEM,”

Shiko added,

“YOU ALSO HAVE YOUR BOYFRIEND SO YOU WILL BE FORCED TO GO IN A DIFFERENT JUNCTION AWAY FROM WHERE YOU LIVE.

“MY BOYFRIEND KNOWS THAT I AM A SEX WORKER. WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR SIX YEARS NOW AND HE IS OKAY WITH MY WORK. SI HII NI KAZI KAMA ZILE ZINGINE?”

However, Vivian does it in secret because her boyfriend is taking care of his kid after his baby daddy abandoned her child.

“HE KNOWS I AM WORKING BUT AS A BAR HOSTESS,” SHE SAID, ADDING THAT IF HER BOYFRIEND KNOWS WHAT SHE DOES, HE WOULD NOT BE HAPPY.

“I AM SURE HE WILL CUT ALL THE SUPPORT HE HAS BEEN GIVING ME, SO I DO IT UNDER HIS KNOWLEDGE. BUT EVEN WITHOUT HIM, I CAN STILL MANAGE TO TAKE CARE OF MY CHILD.”

What are the problems of being a sex worker? Vivian said:

“JUST LIKE ANY OTHER JOB, OURS TOO HAS CHALLENGES. SOMETIMES YOU FALL SICK, WITH THE COMMON DISEASES BEING SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS (STIS). AND WHEN YOU GO TO PUBLIC HOSPITALS, THE NURSES WANT TO EXPOSE YOU TO THE OTHER NURSES TO COME SEE YOU. IN YOUR HOOD, YOU ARE NOT RESPECTED ONCE PEOPLE KNOW YOUR ARE A PROSTITUTE.

“IN SCHOOL, YOUR CHILD WILL BE HUMILIATED BY OTHER CHILDREN AND EVEN THE TEACHERS. ANOTHER PLACE YOU FACE HUMILIATION IS IN THE CHURCH, WHERE THE PASTOR WILL MAJOR THEIR TOPIC ON YOU.

“APART FROM THAT, THERE IS HARASSMENT WITH YOUR CLIENTS. SOMETIMES THEY DO NOT WANT TO PAY YOU. THE KANJOS, TOO, HARASS YOU A LOT.”

They say their family members also know the kind of jobs they do in Nairobi.

Shiko said: “Part of my family knows what I do because there is an organisation called Bar Hostess Empowerment and Support Programme that deals with helping the adolescent girls and women who usually have sex with multiple partners like us here.

“IN THAT ORGANISATION IS WHERE WE GO FOR HIV TESTING, AND IF FOUND NEGATIVE, THEY GIVE YOU PEP TO PROTECT YOU FROM GETTING HIV INFECTION, ARVS IF YOU ARE ALREADY INFECTED AND EVEN COUNSELING SESSIONS. THIS ORGANISATION REALLY HELPS US BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT IS REALLY HARD FOR US SEX WORKERS TO THE EXTENT WE FEEL LIKE COMMITTING SUICIDE. WE LIKE IT BECAUSE THERE IS MORE PRIVACY WITH OUR WORK.”

How much do they earn? To answer that, Vivian said:

“FOR ME, THIS JOB HAS MONEY, AND EVEN THE BIBLE TELL US TO USE WHAT WE HAVE. PER DAY I GET TO EARN MYSELF ABOUT SH5,000 OR EVEN MORE. I THINK I AM SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT PERSON WHO JUST STAYS IN THE HOUSE PHYSICALLY FIT BUT DOES NOT WANT TO WORK. I SAVE A LOT.”

Shiko, on the other hand, says:

“IN MY BAD DAYS I GET LIKE SH10,000, BECAUSE IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ARE LOCATED.”

Would they ever get enough of that and stop being sex work and start their own business?

Vivian said;

“I CAN’T STOP BEING A SEX WORKER BUT I CAN OPEN A BUSINESS, AND GIVE IT TO SOMEONE TO RUN IT. JOB ISHIKISHE MAHALI PENGINE BUT MIMI NIENDELEE NA HII YANGU. LIKE I BE THE BOSS OF MY JOB. WHEN IT’S DOWN AND WHEN IT’S BOOMING, I WILL BE OKAY.”

Shiko replied saying:

“I HAVE SO MANY JOBS RUNNING BUT I CAN’T HONESTLY. I CAN’T LEAVE THE JOB UNLESS WHEN TIME WILL TELL. BUT FOR NOW, I AM NOT LEAVING IT.”

How do they still manage to be sex workers in Kenya, yet it’s illegal?

“YES, IT IS ILLEGAL, BUT WE ARE FIGHTING SO MUCH FOR IT TO BE LEGALISED BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE JOBLESS IN KENYA AND THEY NEED TO FEED THEIR CHILDREN. WE ARE NOT READY TO GET MARRIED. IF IT IS NOT BUSINESS, I AM NOT READY TO HAVE YOU AS A MAN.”

Perhaps one day commercial sex work will be legalised, complete with a format through which they can pay taxes. And when this day comes, it will be safe for Vivian, Shiko and the countless other women who are engaged in it. Until then, the pair will continue to use their wits and bodies to etch out a living.
