Governor Declares Second Holiday in Honour of Mzee Moi

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has declared February 12, 2020, a holiday for all county workers in honour of the late former president Daniel Moi.
He made the declaration from his office in Nandi County while expressing his condolence on behalf of the county to Moi’s family. He eulogized the former president as a firm and dedicated leader.

Sang went on to announce that his county residents would have an extra day off in remembrance of Moi.
Further, to allow our county staff to join the rest of the country during the funeral service, I have officially declared a break from duties on Wednesday

This surprise announcement is in variance with the Public Holidays Act Cap 110 in the Kenyan Constitution which allows only the appropriate Minister to gazette any holiday in the country.
The Minister may at any time if he thinks fit, by notice in the Gazette, declare any day to be a public holiday either in addition to the days mentioned in the Schedule or in substitution for any of those days and either throughout Kenya or in any district, area or part thereof, and thereupon any day so appointed shall be a public holiday in all respects as if it were a day mentioned in the Schedule, in Kenya or the locality specified in the notice
