Yvonne Okwara Attacks Uhuru and DP Ruto Over Pay Rise

Citizen TV's no non-sense news anchor Yvonne Okwara, on Thursday night, turned her guns towards President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto for their alleged pay rise plan.

Speaking during a live recording of the show News Gang, Okwara insinuated that it would be a little irresponsible for them to accept the rise nearly two years after they made a commitment for a 20 per cent pay cut.

The outspoken journalist further revealed that the increase would add more burden since Members of the National Assembly are also on a mission to add themselves allowances.

"Tonight, I am confused...There are reports that the president and his deputy will receive a pay rise...Now let me take you back to the fact that they reportedly took a pay cut before the 2017 elections to curb the ballooning wage bill.

"I say reportedly because it is difficult for us to independently verify that they indeed took home less money," stated Okwara.

She further explained that ever since the leaders purported to have taken the pay cut, no one knows what the money accomplished or what it was set out to do.

"They claimed the money would be put into a kitty...Rotich (Henry, Treasury CS) even telling us they had Ksh65 million but that 'the usage of the fund is yet to be determined'.

"Yet here we are today with this new revelation that him and his deputy are slated for a pay rise. A few questions come into mind. Will he take this pay rise and what ever happened to that money in the Salary cut account?" she continued.

She also slammed other leaders for constantly demanding allowances predicting that it would reach a time when they would demand another allowance to help them process their other many allowances.

Business Daily Newspaper, their Wednesday edition, quoted treasury documents which revealed that Uhuru and his deputy were set to get a pay rise of 3.9 percent to earn a combined basic salary of Ksh38 million from Ksh36.6 million.
