Why Gov Waititu Was Forced to Cancel Citizen TV Interview

Details have emerged about why Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu skipped an earlier interview he had scheduled with Citizen TV's Hussein Mohamed.

The governor was supposed to appear on the station's News Night programme to "shed light on recent allegations of misappropriation of funds and deceit by his government."

Mohamed explained on the show that Waititu would not honour his pledge after he was advised otherwise by his fellow governors.

"Governor Waititu says he will no be coming to the show and that the Council of Governors has prevailed upon him not to come for the show tonight.

"This matter surrounding the county's controversial budget spending for the 2017/2018 financial budget year would be handled by the Council of Governors. Very sad," stated Mohamed.

This comes at a time when the troubled governor is entangled in a dispute with Auditor General Edward Ouko over suspicious expenditures in the 2017/18 county budget.
On Thursday, May 2, Waititu baffled County Public Accounts and Investment Committee with the ridiculous allocations.

The governor was unable to answer questions that arose from the documents from 2017/18 financial year that he presented himself.

The report showed that Kiambu County had allocated Ksh180 million for the administration of benefits to retired presidents.

Ksh973 million was also documented to have been used in the coordination of State House functions and Ksh800 million for free primary education.

In light of the events, his Chief of Staff Gibson Mburu resigned following the controversy.
