Rebecca Soki, who was one of Bahati’s signees, has revealed for the first time why she left EMB records.

Bahati had started his label with much aplomb, signing Rebecca Soki, David Wonder and Mr Seed onto his fledgling EMB record label, 3 years ago.
Soki was initially hesitant to confirm she had left the outfit, saying she didn’t want there to be bad blood. She said:
MIMI NILITOKA KITAMBO KULIKO KILA MTU!
This translates to, “I left earlier than any other artiste.”
She said she left because she wanted freedom. She said her friendship with the EMB CEO was still good, although she did not see him anymore.

She also clarified that the claims that she stole the beat for “Baraka Zangu” weren’t true. Some have observed that the beats between her song and international artiste Claydee’s song, “Hey Ma” are similar, something she denied.
She said that she had been caught up in a fight between Bahati and the other side. She also did not like the secular styles EMB had used on “Baraka Zangu”. She said that after the fiasco she no longer felt at peace in the EMB ship.
She tried to endure life at the studio but she says she couldn’t and had to depart.

Was the experience at EMB worth it for her? She responded with a question:
ITANISAIDIA AJE NA NIMEWAACHIA WIMBO. WIMBO ILIKUWA NA VITA. YULE NDUGU (THE ONE BAHATI HAD A PROBLEM WITH) ALIENDA US NA AKABLOCK HIYO WIMBO. SASA HATA HAIUZWI. UNAONA.
Did she gain anything from going to EMB?
HATA KITU MOJA. HATA NASIKITIKA MBONA NILIENDA KULE.
This translates to: “Not one thing. I regret ever going there.”
She claims that she did not care about the EMB contract, as she left after the “Baraka Zangu” fiasco. That was not all. Soki also alleges Bahati is profiting from her old songs despite her saying she owns the rights.

She said wryly about Bahati:
SI MTU MZURI. ANA KIBURI. ANAFIKIRIA DUNIA NI YAKE.
We tried to reach out to Bahati and his wife, Diana, for comment but our texts, messages, calls and DMs on Instagram went unanswered.
