Why Moses Kuria told journalist ‘Hire a Kikuyu translator in your newsroom’

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria blasted a journalist, who asked the lawmaker to repeat his written English speech in Kikuyu for the sake of its audiences.

Speaking at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, January 10, Mr Kuria alleged threats to his life, saying he has already filed a report with the DCI head, George Kinoti.

This comes after Mr Kuria faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta over development record in Central Kenya, compared to other parts of the country.

In his speech on Thursday, Mr Kuria affirmed his support for the Head of State, allaying anxiety over speculations that he was going to resign as Gatundu South representative to the National Assembly.

The lawmaker further said his gripe was directed at the County Government of Kiambu for delaying development projects; and not the State Executive, saying President Kenyatta had played his part by allocating funds to the devolved unit.

When he completed reading his speech, a journalist from a vernacular TV station, broadcasting in Kikuyu dialect, asked Mr Kuria to repeat his entire speech in Kikuyu, to which the legislator responded: “Go hire Kikuyu translators in your newsroom.”
