Citizen TV news anchor Willis Raburu has come out to explain why he had to turn down a ‘mouth-watering’ offer to relocate to NTV.
Speaking K24’s Talk Central, the 10 over 10 show host explained that despite the monetary gains the move promised, he is more focused on growing his brand.
“There were some offers that were made...people are like ‘we want you tomorrow come let’s do it’ and they offer money, throw things all over without considering if the deal is going in the direction of your brand…
“I mean more money is always good but at the end of the day the environment where you are working really comes into play for me,” he said.
When the offer came through, Raburu disclosed that he did not want to stay mum about it, a fact that drove him to let it out to his bosses.
“I really had to go talk to some of my bosses at a personal level to consult if the move was worthy. I didn’t want to make a mistake because you can jump ship and then things go wrong. The direction that was being offered was not really what I was doing,” he narrated.
The anchor further explained that he had been at Royal Media Services for long, grown so much attached to the company and its leadership that it was hard to think about moving.
Late year, some sections of the media reported that the celebrated anchor had struck a deal with Nation Media Group and was set to pitch tent there but it remained to be seen.
The jovial media personality tied the knot last year in a small ceremony attended by family and friends.
