A young man, Kelvin Kitili aka Omar Ali Ibrahim was charged on Wednesday at a Milimani court for giving false information to the police.
The individual had reported to the police earlier in the month that he was planning to launch a major attack in Nairobi alongside some colleagues.
However, Kelvin later claimed that he only gave the false information because he was intoxicated and under strong influence of bhang after consuming considerable amounts of the drug.
He nevertheless pleaded guilty to the charge of giving false information to persons in public service.
But in an unlikely turn, the case against him took a different twist and there was more than the man was prepared for.
Kelvin was also charged with traveling to Somalia- a state associated with training of radicalized youths from Kenya to become terrorist.
It was indicated that his engagements for the travel did not follow the proper channels involved for one to move out of the country.
Additionally, Kelvin was charged with the crime of making a falsified official document.
Evidence produced in court indicated that he had a certificate (fake) showing that he had been trained at the Youth Education Pack (YEP) Centre as a wireman.
More evidence on the accused will be released by the Anti-terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) at another scheduled hearing on Wednesday afternoon before the court passes a sentence with the sentencing expected on the same day.
