Tension Boils Up In Migori County Following Okoth Obado's Fresh Arrest

Tension high in Migori County following Okoth Obado's fresh arrest

Tension is boiling up in parts of Migori County following the dramatic arrest of embattled governor Zachary Okoth Obado on Wednesday, November 14.

The governor's supporters were enraged by the fresh arrest which came barely a day after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers raided his homes and offices in Migori and Nairobi.

Migori governor Okoth Obado's supporters were angered by his fresh arrest which came barely a day after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officers raided his homes.

The Evening Post on Thursday established some of the supporters were left surprised and confused following the arrest of the governor whom they knew had been released on bail in relation to the Sharon Otieno's murder case, and was also being investigated for corruption by EACC.

"We recently read in the newspapers that he was being investigated for stealing KSh 2 billion. Now we hear he has been arrested for being in possession of guns. We don't know what the authorities are looking for," one of them told NTV.

Another who identified himself as Kennedy Otieno said he was not happy with Obado's re-arrest arguing it was not in order because the governor was already facing other charges and had been freed on cash bail.

Some of the supporters also read political mischief in their governor's seemingly never ending tribulations.

Obado is already facing charges relating to the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sharon, whose body was found dumped in Kodera Forest on September 4.

The governor was charged with two counts of murder alongside his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and Migori County government's clerk Caspal Obiero.

He pleaded not guilty to the murder charges and was released on a KSh 5 million cash bail on October 24 after he had spent 34 days at the Industrial Area Remand Prison.

Obado was arraigned in a Kibera court on Thursday following his re- arrest and after EACC detectives raided and discovered eight firearms at his homes and offices in Migori and Nairobi.

The anti-graft detectives also found several documents including bank statements and electronic gadgets they believed could help in the ongoing probe into graft allegations linked to the governor.
