The third suspect in the murder of businesswoman Mary Wambui Kamangara was yesterday arraigned in a Kiambu court and detained for a week so the police can finish investigations.
Michael Mathenge did not take a plea as police need more time to investigate. Senior principal magistrate Stella Atambo granted the application by investigating officer Cornelius Arwasa who sought seven days to complete the probe.
In the ongoing investigations two suspects, namely Joseph Kori Karue, Wambui’s husband, and his alleged girlfriend Judy Wangui Mungai, have been detained for 14 days following a court order allowing detectives to hold them.
The magistrate said investigations touch on an intended “murder” charge which is weighty by any consideration and hence the compelling reason why the investigating officer should be given time to conclusively make a decision that is just and fair before the suspect takes plea.
Atambo said the investigating officer is clear that he is investigating the murder of the late Mary Wambui Kamangara and he has given a background of all the intended investigations.

Arwasa told the court that the court orders were earlier granted in a related application and two suspects were remanded until February 13, 2019. CCTV footage showed Mathenge was at Fourways Junction estate when incident happened and that he was in constant communication with another suspect Judy Mungai.
