A police officer was on Thursday arrested after he was caught on camera stealing spare parts of cars parked at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) parking lot in Eldoret.
Delson Ayugu was exposed by the CCTV cameras present in the bank’s parking lot while committing the act.
The officer stole two windscreens and corner rubber from one of the vehicles in the compound.
The owner of the Mitsubishi Lancer saloon registration plate KBX980G reported to the Officer Commanding Police Post (OCCP) at the bank who arrested the suspect.
Confirming the arrest, Eldoret West Deputy OCPD Hussein Abduba noted that the officer was being interrogated but in case he is found involved in that criminal activity, he will be taken to court.
“Our officers attached at the Central Bank reported to the police station that they have arrested our own officer who had also been attached to the same bank for allegedly stealing a motor vehicle parts from one of the vehicles parked within the parking yard," he affirmed.
He further added that the police officer was booked awaiting the conclusion of investigations.
This is not the first incident of someone being caught committing a crime on CCTV cameras.
In January this year, Corporal Jared Ogutu was arrested after he was caught on camera taking a bribe.
Another police officer in February was filmed assaulting an unarmed civilian.
In another incident, five people claiming to be police officers were captured on camera stealing from a Nairobi business man's home.
The five harrassed the worker in the home while asking him to load the stolen items into the awaiting car.
