Detectives Find 8 Guns And 40 Title Deeds in Obado’s Homes After Raid

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) sleuths raided the office and home of Migori Governor Okoth Obado and confiscated eight firearms, electronics and several bank statements.

According to the Nation, five guns were recovered in his Nairobi residence while three were found in Migori.

The raid happened in the morning hours of Tuesday with detectives spending hours rummaging though documents that could help in investigations into alleged misappropriation of Ksh 2billion by the governor.

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti mentioned that the guns would be subject to ballistic examination at the Central Firearms Bureau (CFB).

CFB will also verify the certifications of the guns to ascertain Obado held them legally.

Whereas the Firearms Act is clear on the type of firearms one can be licensed for it does not specify the number of pistols civilian can own.
The operation was conducted by a team of 60 people from Kisii and Nairobi who were guarded by heavily armed personnel.

The governor was in Nairobi during the raid after leaving the Migori County last Saturday when he hosted Deputy President William Ruto at Kendege in Kuria East.

Obado has not set foot in his Rapogi home since being released on Ksh 5million bail in the murder of Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby.

According to bail terms, Obado was to stay at least 20km away from Homa Bay County. His Rapogi home is within the distance.

EACC spokesman Yassin Amaro revealed the investigators had recovered some documents relating to a Ksh 2billion procurement case under investigation.
