High Court judge James Wakiaga on Tuesday, October 30 ruled that Joseph Irungu, alias Jowi, who is accused of murdering Nairobi businesswoman Monica Kimani, be denied bail.
Justice Wakiaga said that the suspect is a flight risk and may threaten witnesses should he be freed on bail.
The judge also said Jowi has no known residence in the country besides living in his fiancée Jacque Maribe’s house in Lang’ata.
Mr Wakiaga in his ruling, described Mr Irungu as a “male version of a slay queen”.
“For lack of a better word, I would refer to the 1st accused as a woman eater,” said Mr Wakiaga.
The judge also referred to Mr Irungu as a “lover of guns”, who has flaunted his penchant for the machines on social media.
Mr Irungu, who remains remanded following the Tuesday court decision, will be treated for gun wounds at the Kenyatta National Hospital, Justice Wakiaga ruled.
His fiancée, Jacque Maribe, was freed on cash bail of Ksh1 million and three sureties of similar amount, or a bond of Ksh2 million and one surety of similar amount.
