Jacque Maribe will be the talk of the town for the coming month unless something crazier happens in this country of taxes and more taxes.
Her relationship with Joe Irungu has already taken volumes of column space on this respected tabloid. But one thing that we didn’t know for sure was what her family, especially her father Pastor Mwangi Maribe thought of it.

But that was not the only thing that troubled Jacque’s father. Apart from his unease with Jowie he also was not happy that Joe had not paid bride price that is required in Kikuyu custom.
The traditional ceremony called is the ruracio’ and is done when the grooms family visits the brides family and bride price(dowry) negotiations take place. This can be done over several visits and is normally done when a couple is serious about settling down.
Jacque’s father knew this and wanted Jowie to signal his interest by asking for the bride price from Joe. A source who is intimate with the family dealings told the Nairobian:
THE FATHER ASKED JOWIE WHEN HE WILL PRESENT THE BRIDE PRICE AND HE RESPONDED THAT, “NITAJIPANGA”.
Wow! That response most likely did not calm the seas of Mwangi’s unrest in Jowie’s intentions for his daughter, as close sources said the father was increasingly concerned with the calibre of men that Jacque would introduce him to.
The family figured that asking for a ruracio’ to take place was one way of establishing whether Joe was a legitimate suitor for Jacque and not a time-waster.
Now that Jacque and Jowie are in this terrible mess, it is safe to say that the issue of bride price is the last thing on their families minds. Ama?
