Migori Governor Okoth Obado has urged his constituents to pray for him as he continues to face “huge battles”.
Obado, who spoke at Upper Hill SDA Church in Migori last Saturday, alluded to his ongoing court case, in which he is accused of murdering Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
The governor, who had been remanded for one month in Nairobi, was freed on Ksh5 million cash bail on Wednesday, October 24, and ordered to restrict his movements within a radius not exceeding 20 kilometers from Migori County.
And on the first Saturday of his return to Migori, Obado took refuge in church, where he promised the congregants and area constituents that he will cooperate with the courts, even as he feels rejuvenated to dispense his duties as a governor.
“I am pleased that I am back home; closer to you now. I will try as much as possible to visit areas in the county, which need my attention. It is my prayer that we complete the development projects we had started, and even start new ones. I urge you to stay peaceful, hoping you will continue praying for me as these issues [murder case] continues to unfold. It is my hope that the truth comes out, and you get to know of it,” said Obado in church.
“Don’t be worried or afraid. I have huge battles, but I am hopeful that if you pray for me, I shall overcome the woes facing me,” said Obado.
Obado, a suspect in the murder of Sharon Otieno, pleaded not guilty to killing the varsity student on September 3.
The pre-trial conference has been set for February 14, 2019.
Sharon was buried on October 19 at her grandparents’ home in Homa Bay County.
