Jacque Maribe’s Dad makes a weird confession about his killer son-in-law

Jacque Maribe’s father has spoken to the media for the first time since his daughter was arrested alongside her fiance, Joseph Jowie Irungu, over the murder of Monica Kimani in Kilimani.

Mr Mwangi Maribe has come out strongly to defend his daughter and proclaim her innocence, arguing that she is a victim of love and circumstances.

Mr Maribe has also lashed out at the police, accusing them of seeking to “become famous” by prosecuting her because she is a celebrity.

“Police want to become famous by nailing a celebrity. That is why my daughter is in custody. Her neighbour, Brian Kassaine, also has a partner. Why is she not in custody? Her biggest mistake was falling in love,” he told the Nation.

According to Mr Maribe, investigators have not directly linked Ms Kimani’s murder to Jacque Maribe, saying there was “no way” his daughter could have been involved in the murder and then break the news the following day on Citizen TV.

“The day after Monica’s murder, my daughter read the same piece of news at Citizen. How callous can she be to participate in a murder and have the courage to read the news? That is not the girl we raised,” he stated.

Mr Maribe added that his family fears for the life of Jacque Maribe should she testify against the prime suspect and lover, Joseph Irungu.

“He may not have committed the crime alone. The man has deep connections with shadowy people. His accomplices may be out there and may go after my daughter if she testifies against him. She could live in fear for the rest of her life,” he said.

Mr Maribe admitted that he had met his daughter’s boyfriend but claimed that they were not in good terms. He claimed that Jacque Maribe wanted to end the relationship.

“She asked Irungu to return her car keys and ATM card. Even when they went back to the house, Jacque threw some of his clothes out. The man threatened to kill himself after Jacque said she would leave him. He borrowed a gun and shot himself,” he said.

When asked why Jacque Maribe gave contradicting information to police regarding Irungu’s shooting incident, Mr Maribe attributed it to love.

“She may have felt responsible for his attempted suicide. At that time, she did not know about Monica and her connections to Irungu.”

Maribe, a two-time Kiharu constituency parliamentary aspirant, said he knew Mr Irungu since he had visited his home with Ms Maribe twice or thrice but he had no idea where he worked.

Mr Maribe added that he knew about their engagement over the media.

“She is an adult and I was not following much about their relationship. I even heard of their engagement over the media.”

Mr Maribe said he visited her and that she was in good health, relaxed and “her conscience clean as she was innocent”.

“If she had bad manners, she could not have reached to the levels where she is right now,” he said of his daughter’s career.
