Dennis Itumbi has waxed lyric and poetry about his wonderful friend Jacque Maribe. The State House operative made his name as one of the first Kenyan full-time bloggers and has made it a habit of posting (blogging) about his friend Jacque.

The regularity of it has left many Kenyans wondering why Itumbi is passionately supporting Maribe with such zeal. Some of their comments are below:

I do wonder too? The messages he sends look like those of an obsessed fanboy than those of a friend. Eminem once sang a song called “Stan” that comes to mind.

In the song, Eminem who was at the apex of his career tells the story of a young man who is so starstruck by him that he eventually ends up taking his own life and that of his pregnant wife.
The increasingly deranged fan writes many letters to Eminem, even dressing and trying to look like Eminem as the video progresses.
While I am not saying that Itumbi is Stan, his tweets in support of Jacque are striking in their regularity and verve. Even Jacque’s closest friends like Shix Kapienga, Kirigo Ng’rua and Terryanne Chebet have not been this banal in their support.

And that begs the question? Is his an obsession with Jacque? Maybe? It could be possible that his love for her was never quenched and that he has been biding his time.

And what better way to show that Itumbi is the man for Jacque (the distressed damsel in this story) than be her knight in shining armor, who will fight all her battles and vanquish her enemy?

Or could this be what a “great” friendship should look like? One that can rival the legendary friendship of David and Jonathan that is told of in the Bible? But comrades for this day and age, and in this unique case, one between opposite sexes?

I think neither of the two? What! Yes, none of the two theories satisfy me. I have a more sinister motive. I think all that Itumbi is doing is very self-serving. I believe It is one elaborate ruse to polish and varnish his name in the public arena.

A recent expose of what happened during his time at State House paints the picture of a man who is very egotistical and vain. A man who would gladly jump at any opportunity to promote and further his self-aggrandizing persona. Something that most politicians excel at, using any news to advance themselves, be it good or bad.

Is he wrong to do it? That is a question for the moralists. But I will live you with this oft-used and rarely understood phrase:
ALLS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR.
Ponder that.
