Residents of Tigania West, Meru County have been left in shock after a man allegedly strangled his four-month-old baby to death.
Kennedy Mutembei, aged 21, is said to have committed the gruesome act after a domestic quarrel with his 19-year-old-wife.
According to police, the shocking incident happened at around 12 am on Wednesday in Kiburine village.
The suspect’s wife, Winfred Kianaria, told police officers that her husband came home very drunk when they started to quarrel. She said she ran outside to call for help after Mr Mutembei got out of bed and strangled the baby.
Neighbours who responded to her distress calls rushed the infant to Meru Level Five Hospital after they found him unresponsive.
Unfortunately, the baby succumbed and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
Confirming the incident, Meru police boss David Kirui said they have arrested the suspect. He further urged Meru residents to solve their domestic disputes amicably without resorting to violence.
