It has emerged one of the key suspects in the gruesome murder of slain 28-year-old lady Monica Kimani tried to take his own life.
Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, boyfriend of Citizen TV news anchor Jackie Maribe, who was also arrested in connection with the murder of Monica, allegedly shot himself in desperate attempts to take his own life.
Joe Irungu, fiance to Citizen TV news anchor Jackie Maribe, had alleged he was shot by unknown people when he dropped Maribe at Royal Park Estate the same Friday morning the woman's body was found.
We learnt Irungu most likely turned the gun on himself at his girlfriend's house in Lang'ata, Nairobi, shortly before he was arrested.
The gun used to commit the crime, Citizen TV reported, was found by the detectives in one of the three houses the suspect had visited.
The owner of the gun in question, identified as Brian Kassaine Spira, has also been arrested and is in police custody alongside Irungu and Maribe as investigation into Monica's murder continues.
Other unconfirmed reports indicated the detectives also discovered partially burnt clothes behind one of the houses searched in Lang'ata.
The clothes were taken for DNT testing.
Meanwhile, Maribe will spend her second night in police custody as she awaits hearing of her bail.
Detectives whisked Maribe to Gigiri Police Station on the early night of Saturday, September 29, where she had gone for the second time to record a statement.
The DCI confirmed his team had sufficient evidence to charge the TV beauty whom we understands is now a key murder suspect.
Maribe will be detained throughout the weekend awaiting her arraignment on Monday, October 1.
It is not yet clear why Monica was murdered and what specific role Maribe played in the heinous crime.
