Joshua Kutuny: Woman storms MP's homestead at midnight demanding child upkeep

Woman storms MP Joshua Kutuny's homestead at midnight demanding child upkeep

A commotion ensued at Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny’s home in Nairobi in the night of Tuesday, February 4, after a woman stormed the legislator’s house demanding child upkeep.

Police officers who were on patrol at Milima area, Lang’ata rushed to the Jubilee MP’s house after an alarm was raised at his residence in Hardy area.

According to a statement by the police seen by TUKO.co.ke, an officer Emmanuel Maiyo was forced to shoot in the air when they arrived at the lawmaker’s residence after a lady identified as Joyline Chemutai asked for help.

“The incident happened at 12.10am when police officers Emmanuel Maiyo and Mercy Ng’eno were on patrol within Milima area when an alarm was raised at Hon Joshua Kutuny’s residence at Hardy area,” part of the statement read.

“The officers rushed to the scene and found a lady inside the compound saying she wanted to be killed. The officer (Maiyo) was forced to shoot in the air with one round of ammunition to calm the situation. It was established than one Joyline Chemutai had gone to the said homestead claiming child upkeep from Hon Joshua Kutuny," the OB report read.

The police were investigating the matter by the time of going to press.

Cases of women asking for child maintenance from politicians in Kenya are on the rise.

In July 2019, a woman claiming to have engaged in a romantic affair with Jubilee nominated MP Maina Kamanda moved to the Nairobi Children's Court over child support.

Esther Wanjiku, a nominated Member of County Assembly in Nyandarua county, asked that the MP to be compelled to pay KSh 220,000 maintenance fee for the child after he abdicated his role.

The case is still pending in court.

In another instance, Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma stunned the Children's Court in 2014 after he revealed his salary was not enough to to afford upkeep for a child he had sired with a former lover.
