
A family in Nairobi ushered in the new year with the loss of their kin after a freak accident involving a bus from Ummoinner Sacco and a motorcycle.
According to a report by Daily Nation, the driver of the bus was speeding from Nairobi CBD towards Donholm when he knocked down the motorcycle at Makongeni area in Nairobi a few minutes before midday.
The accident cost a woman her life and left four other people nursing critical injuries.
According to a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the vehicle overturned after the deadly accident and its driver vanished.
Quoting witnesses, Nation noted that the driver of the bus hit the motorcycle while he attempted to avoid knocking an oncoming car.
The accident occurred at the Church Army roundabout.
Seven other passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Mama Lucy Hospital.
Police officers confirmed the incident and launched a manhunt for the missing driver of the ill-fated bus. The body of the deceased was taken to City Mortuary.
The incident was among a series of accidents that happened across the country on the first day of 2020 claiming a total of nine lives.
