In an incident that could be considered as inhumane and brutal, Daisy Mbaithe Mbaluka, a teacher at Ndooni Primary School in Mutitu, Kitui County, was killed as her two daughters watched on Tuesday, January 7,2020.
Mbaluka was allegedly lynched by a mob, over the poor performance of students.
Police reports seen by The Standard indicated that Ms Mbaluka was on her way to take her daughters to school at St Angela’s Girls in Kitui when she was attacked.
Mbaluka and her daughters were riding on two different motorbikes when a gang, some of whom possessed crude weapons, blocked the moving motorbike and grabbed her.
It is then that the gang, which was baying for her blood, started beating her and hacked her to death before they set her on fire.
Witnesses at the scene stated that the girls watched as the brutal murder was executed.
On Thursday, January 9, two suspects were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder.
Wambua Mwangangi and Chris Kyalo were arraigned for allegedly being part of the mob that killed the teacher.
Resident Magistrate Felistus Nekesa allowed detectives to detain them at Mutitu Police Station for 21 days as investigations continue.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has since withdrawn six teachers from the school.
“The commission regrets the unfortunate death of the teacher and takes this opportunity to condole with her family, relatives, friends, pupils and teachers of Ndooni Primary School.
“The commission wishes to assure them that it is working with the government agencies to establish the circumstances under which the teacher met her death,” read the statement.
