Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has found himself on the receiving end after launching a scathing attack against Opposition leader Raila Odinga during a burial ceremony of the late vice president Kijana Wamalwa's son in Kitale.
All was well until the MP allied to Deputy President William Ruto said he would lead Western Kenya leaders in scuttling Raila's ambition of becoming the fifth president of Kenya.
The sentiments did not go well with the mourners who in turn started heckling the legislator but he was too determined to drive his point home during the Sunday, December 15, ceremony.
"Willy go and tell you father (Michael Wamalwa) that Barasa is going to deal with the man who denied him the chance to rule Kenya. Tell him that I’m going to 'unleash vengeance kicks' on Raila for the humiliation I got in Kibra [during] mini-poll,’’ Barasa said amid heckling from mourners.
The vocal MP angered mourners even more when he asked Saboti MP Caleb Amisi to leave Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to avoid losing his seat in 2022.
"Mr Amisi, you know that you were lucky to have won the Saboti seat and you know that I am capable of ensuring you lose your seat in 2022 if you don't quit ODM,’’ Barasa continued.
Other leaders who attended the burial ceremony did not take the words of Barasa kindly with Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka calling him out for disrespecting other leaders.
‘’Elected leaders should address other leaders with decorum. Don’t use a funeral platform to attack other leaders,’’ Lusaka told Barasa.
Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito said the Kimilili legislator had been turned into a political hire for insulting other leaders in the region.
“We know you are being used by someone to attack and insult respected leaders in the country and we will not tolerate your behavior,’’ he warned.
