At least two of the country’s leading airports will on Thursday temporarily be closed due to Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will be closed for one hour between 11am and 12pm during which no flights will be allowed to take off or land.
Wilson Airport, on the other hand, will experience a 5-hour closure between 9am and 2pm.
Fly 540 and EastAfrican airlines, in separate notices issued on Wednesday, advised clients who had booked flights on the indicated time periods that their travel will be delayed.
“We are getting in touch with the affected passengers and advising them accordingly,” read the advisories.
This year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi County with Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley as the special guest.
