
A petrol tanker on Thursday, October 17, overturned causing a major traffic snarl-up on the busy Mai Mahiu Road.
Local residents and passers-by were captured rushing to the scene armed with jerricans which they then used to siphon the fuel which was leaking from the overturned truck.
A traffic police officer at the scene watched helplessly as the locals flooded the truck with an array of containers.
The latest incident comes just three days after another fuel truck overturned along the Thika Superhighway.
Past cases of siphoning fuel from overturned tankers have mostly ended in numerous deaths with the deadliest being the 2009 Sanchangwan tragedy that claimed the lives of over 100 people in Molo.
