Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, has ordered the investigations into alleged battering claims at Nairobi School be completed by next week.
Speaking during an impromptu visit to Nanyuki Primary School and DEB Nanyuki on Wednesday, Magoha demanded to be informed directly by the school leadership, on what has been happening in the institution.
"I know investigations are underway but on the parallel side, I would like to know directly from the people whom we have entrusted with the children’s' life on what is going on there," he noted.
Magoha firmly stated that he wanted to know who had committed the offense and what action had been taken, Daily Nation reported.
"If there are prefects or any other person who is terrorizing children in school must stop," he remarked.
In the exposé, a 15-year-old student is reported to have been battered by prefects at the school, to a point where he was unable to talk, recognize his brother and has to use diapers when relieving himself.
A report conducted by a consultant radiologist further states that the boy has fluid in his brain and is in need of urgent brain surgery.
It is the report that has captured the attention of many people, with most taking the discussion online.
"I believe as a parent when it reaches to a point one child is admitted in the hospital and waiting for surgery as a result of beating no excuse there, that is a criminal offence to be dealt to be an example to other students in other schools," a netizen, Thomas, commented.
"Is there no law that can stop this sickness in schools? what's wrong with the so called principals?" Amanda questioned.
The cabinet secretary has also ordered investigations into Sawagongo school in Siaya county, which is believed to be suffering the same predicament.
