Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko on Wednesday hired dancers to welcome the Kabadi team at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA).
In their green and yellow outfits, the dancers entertained the Kabaddi players who arrived at the airport on Wednesday morning.
On his Facebook page, the governor congratulated the National Kabadi team who clinched a bronze in the on-going Men's world cup championship in Taiwan.
"Congratulations are in order to the National KABADI team for clinching a bronze in kabaddi Men's world cup championship in Taiwan," Sonko stated.
The team put up a brave fight, losing narrowly 34-31 to China in the semifinals but beat big teams like Malaysia in the quarterfinals among other countries.
While celebrating the success of the team on Wednesday, the governor promised to bankroll Harambee Stars with Ksh20 million if they reach the quarterfinals of Afcon 2019.
He even vowed to sell some of his property just to honor the pledge provided they met the target.
"Now you can take this to the bank. If Harambee Stars makes us proud by qualifying at least for the quarterfinals in the Africa cup of Nations in Egypt, I will sell one of my beach plots or take a loan against it and reward them with 20,000,000/=," vowed the governor.
Sonko stated that he had never issued false promises to the players since he joined politics.
"I have been doing it for Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards and even Harambee Stars in so many occasions," Sonko assured.
