Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations flew to Dubai on Monday night to interrogate Ali Zandi, a representative of the United Arab Emirates ruler, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
This comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji asked the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, to investigate reports that some Kenyans might have conned the Sheikh.
Zandi, who conducts businesses on behalf of the Sheikh, complained to President Uhuru Kenyatta citing his gold had been seized at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
He also stated that his consignment, which was to be delivered to Dubai from DR Congo, had been detained for several months at the airport.
Zandi is also a representative of Zilvia Company which is a gold trading company in Dubai.
The investigators will try and obtain possible evidence that will help probe those involved, The Star reports.
They also have until Wednesday next week to hand in their findings.
On Monday, a report by The Standard indicated that a meeting between president Uhuru and Sheikh occurred on April 27, 2019, in Dubai, where the Sheikh allegedly produced an audio recording of the royal representative Ali Zandi communicating with a Kenyan contact.
The publication disclosed that the audio clip was believed to be the same one that leaked online over the weekend titled 'Wetangula exposed in fake gold scam,' in which investigations are currently ongoing.
After three months trying to have his gold delivered, the Sheikh sought to personally bring the matter to the attention of the president during a stopover in Dubai, when they were returning from a summit in China.
