Two members of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s cabinet were on Thursday arrested carrying cash in form of US dollars estimated to be Sh6million.
The two, Faith Harrison who is the chief officer at the Finance, ICT and Economy Planning docket in the county government and Harrison Kungu, were apprehended by DCI detectives along the Mpaka Road in Parklands.
The DCI stated that they suspected the vehicle the officials were using had fake number plates.
“Detectives intercepted a Motor Vehicle along Mpaka road in Parklands on suspicion of having Fake registration numbers and arrested two suspects,” read a statement from the DCI.
The car which had both a fake registration number plate and an official UN rubber stamp, had been ferrying the money which the suspects denied owning.
The police further noted that investigations into the matter had already begun.
Nairobi County government official arrested
In March, police arrested a Nairobi City council government official with motorbike registration number plates for a Range Rover and a Mercedes Benz.
The Range Rover and the Mercedes bore the number plates KBN 591A and KBG 330E respectively.
According to the DCI officers, two other number plates had been found in the boot of the Mercedes.
