Two people are reported to have drowned at Mwewe River in Kisasi, Kitui County following a heavy downpour in the area on Friday night.
According to Kitui County Emergency Officer Bernard Mwela, the two died as they tried to drive through the flooded river.
Mwela says six other occupants in the car however managed to escape.
One body has been recovered while efforts are underway to retrieve the second body.
Elsewhere, over 50 families in Juakali area of Kiwara slums in Nyeri have been displaced by floods after a heavy down pour on Friday night.
The families spent the night in the cold after their houses were flooded with water.
The affected families now say they are at risk of a cholera outbreak, and are calling on the county government to assist them.
