Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been forced to eat humble pie and reinstate two county executives after his nominees either turned down the appointments or were rejected by the county assembly.
Back at City Hall is the former CEC for Health Hitan Majdevia and his Devolution counterpart Vesca Kangogo.
They had been shown the door in August and September 2018, respectively on allegations of insubordination.
The two are to replace Sonia Birdi who Sonko had nominated for the post of Environment CEC but was rejected by the county assembly and Stella Bosire who had been proposed for the position of health CEC but failed to show up for vetting.
This information was made official during the swearing-in ceremony of three other executives at the Governor's office at City hall on Tuesday, April 2.
The reinstated ministers attended the launch of the 2019 governor's bursary presided by Governor Sonko at Charter Hall on the same day.
Majevdia comes into Roads, Transport and Infrastructure docket while, Kangogo will now head the Environment department.
This comes after Nairobi Senator Johnstone Sakaja had taken a debate to Senate claiming the county government is not properly constituted.
The Senator wanted an explanation on why the Nairobi County government has been operating without a deputy governor, the required number of County Executive Committee Members and a substantive Speaker.
Nairobi County also has not had a deputy governor since January 2018 when Polycarp Igathe resigned, five months after the election, citing his failure to earn Sonko’s trust.
The governor also suspended 4 members of the County Executive in late 2018 without getting immediate replacements.
