Ivy Wangechi’s mother, Winfred Waithera, was inconsolable during her burial yesterday.
Her tribute to her daughter brought tears to the eyes of the many who attended the burial in Mahiga, Nyeri county.
Winfred read her moving tribute,
“Sweet darling Ivy, It’s all darkness around. do not know where the next steps will lead me. Without you lvyline, medicine woman, as I would sometimes call you and you would respond with that trademark smile.”
She added, “I miss you my Ivy already, I wonder who will take care of me the way you did? Who will be buying me purses, who will be buying me earrings and perfumes? Who will approve my clothes’ designs? I am at a loss.”
Winfred then stated that Ivy had big dreams of finishing medical school in order to take care of the family.
“Cheryl, Elvis and I miss you. You had great dreams for us, You longed to finish school so that you could be there for us. We take courage because we know that God has a different way of fulfilling your wish Ivyline,” she explained.
“It’s so sad how you have left us Tesh, we wish you did not go so soon our caretaker, our best friend, we love you even in death. Fare thee well my sleeping beauty. It is so so sad to say goodbye. So’ I’ll see you in heaven.
The mourning mother took comfort in the fact that God had a different way of fulfilling her daughter’s dreams.
Ivy’s sister Charyl was too emotional to read out her tribute as she sobbed on the podium flanked by family other members.
