Gov't takes action on security guard caught on camera hitting a woman

KK Security guard who was caught on camera assaulting a woman

A government authority has taken action against a KK Security guard who was caught on camera assaulting a woman.

In a notice, the Private Security Regulatory Authority has directed that the company suspend the guard.

The body’s Chief Executive Officer Fazul Mahamed noted that the incident should serve as a message to guards that such behaviour is unacceptable.

He further noted that it is a violation of the guards' code of conduct adding that proper training in customer service and communication will help the guards to handle clients better.

"The Private Security Officer Training curriculum by the Authority is soon to be launched and is expected to standardize training for all private security officers and address such incidents and other outstanding issues in service provision," the CEO added.

The security guard was filmed by the woman he assaulted despite his numerous warnings to her not to do so.

The woman who is said to be a tenant of the building he was guarding got into an altercation with the guard and it escalated to a point that she threatened to make a formal complaint.

In the video, the guard is heard warning the woman not to film the incident and later proceeding to physically hit her.

Mr Mahamed explained that it is the right of members of the public to launch complaints when they are dissatisfied with services being offered.

"Members of the public, especially consumers of private security services, have the right under Section 55 of the Act to register complaints against a private security provider to the Authority on any misconduct, unprofessionalism, breach of the Act or Code of Conduct.

"We highly regret the incident at Lobelia Court," he stated.
