A drunk graduate has forked out a staggering KSh 36,000 for Uber taxi after ordering for services to a wrong destination, 300 miles away from her intended stop.

Helen Dryden had gone out on a drinking spree alongside her friends in Shoreditch, east London, after which she ordered for a cab after having had one too many.

What the 25-year-old thought was a simple ride to her home in Guildford, Surrey, turned out to be a long journey after she failed to change the settings on her application which had been set to her previous destination in Newcastle, the Mirror reported.

Drunk and tired, the Newcastle University graduate fell asleep in the back of the cab only to wake up an hour later, 60 miles away from her destination.

The driver had to make a U-turn and drive Dryden to Guildford, a journey that cost the lady KSh 36,000.

"I couldn't believe it. The whole day ended up costing me about KSh 52,000. I feel so embarrassed. I was a bit too drunk and just fell asleep. I was devastated when I woke up. I feel really stupid and completely ridiculous," said Dryden.

"I got too drunk. I'm supposed to be getting more responsible as I get older but it's not happening so far," she added.

The woman had been drinking with friends when she missed her last train home, leaving her with only two options.

She was to either pay KSh 13,000 for a room or KSh 10,000 for a cab home, she chose the latter option which turned out to be more costly than she thought.

"I fell asleep as soon as I got in the taxi. I woke up at Milton Keynes and I couldn't believe it. I thought I said I wanted to go to Guildford when I got in. But I can't remember what his reply was. He woke me up and said 'are you sure you want to go to Newcastle?"

"I said 'what, no! Why would I want to go to Newcastle?' I ended up getting home at about 4am. I take responsibility for it because I got too drunk. It's the first time I've ever done something like this. I'm devastated by it. It's too much money to comprehend,"

To add insult to the injury, Dryden is yet to pay the taxi because her credit card also did not have enough funds at the time.

The payment will be processed by end month.
