Three arrested, 25 Burundian women rescued from 'human trafficking ring' in Ruiru


Three women have been arrested in what is suspected to be a human trafficking involving 25 Burundians in Ruiru.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) rescued the Burundians at Gwa-Kairu area in Ruiru, Kiambu County on Thursday morning.

The victims aged between 24 to 33 years were apparently held hostage pending transit to Asian countries.

Detectives discovered them at the home of Mr. Nicholas Mugambi Waigwa following a tip-off.

They arrested three Kenyan women: Mercy Kaaia, Lydia Wairimu and Susan Nyambura Nganga.

In November last year, 79 foreigners were rescued from human traffickers at Mlango Kubwa area in Starehe Constituency, Nairobi.

Police said the victims aged between 19-45 were also discovered following a tip off.

They included 75 Comorans, three Ugandans and a Congolese.

Another 90 had been rescued from different parts of Nairobi the previous day.

Two months before that, 10 Ugandans were intercepted being allegedly smuggled to the Middle East.
