Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has condoled with the family of Likoni MP Mishi Mboko following the death of her brother Dr. Hamisi Ali Jumaa in Cuba.
Governor Joho visited the family and posted that he stands with the family of the doctor who was found dead by a colleague in his room in Havana on Sunday, March 17.
“Today I visited the family of the late Dr. Ali Juma Mwasaa, who passed on in Cuba to condole with them. We stand with the family, relatives, and friends during this time as we wait for the arrival of the body for final rites and burial,” he posted.
Dr. Jumaa committed suicide by using bed sheets that he fastened on a TV antenna over what Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) said was due to “frustration” and “mistreatment.”
“The Kenyan – Cuba arrangement has left Kenyan doctors vulnerable, frustrated and in deplorable conditions. This follows failure by the Kenyan Government to secure proper housing conditions, pay the promised allowances and allow the doctors to reconnect with their families.
"The KMPDU can authoritatively report that Dr. Hamisi Ali Jumaa (deceased) had expressed desire to terminate the program for the reasons mentioned above,” read a statement by KMPDU secretary-general Dr. Ouma Oluga in part.
Dr. Hamisi Ali Jumaa was among 50 medics who left the country in September 2018 as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kenya and Cuba that also saw 100 specialists jet into Kenya.
