CS Amina Mohamed breaks silence after Uhuru moved her to Sports Ministry


Newly appointed Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has reacted to the recent changes in government amidst reports that several other CSs mentioned in graft could be sacked even after being spared by a last minute meeting between the President and his Deputy.

Taking to her official social media accounts, Amina accepted the decision to move her from the Education ministry which will now be headed by Prof George Magoha to the Sports docket.

"It is with humility and high honour that I thank His Excellency President Kenyatta for according me the opportunity to serve as CS in Foreign Affairs, Education and now Sports," she wrote.

She also congratulated Magoha on his new appointment to the Education docket, thanking him for the tremendous support during her tenure at the Ministry of Education.

"I congratulate my colleague in the sector Exams Council Chairman Prof. George Magoha on his nomination. I thank all the sector players and development partners for their tremendous support throughout my headship at the Ministry," she added.

In her parting shot, the CS noted that a lot of strides had been made in the ministry.

Her post read in part that "We delivered credible 2018 national examinations, successful CBC roll-out, near 100% transition from primary to secondary (93 percent and rising) progressive TVET and University reforms, among others".

Magoha who is credited with eliminating cheating in national examinations during his tenure at the Kenya National Examination Council will head the Education ministry upon exiting the exam body.

Amina Mohamed on the other hand will step in to the sports docket that was left vacant after Rashid Echesa was sacked.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that more reorganization is expected in the Cabinet with the fate of several CSs who have been adversely metioned in graft hanging in the balance.

Reports indicate that a last-minute meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Ruto saved the CS after the president was convinced not to sack them until he receives further intelligence reports.

The Standard reports that the DP arrived for the tense meeting at 6 AM to present his viess on the impending changes.

“The argument from one of the sides was that sacking them without evidence could amount to witch-hunt. It would also subject them to a public lynch mob. But the die was cast when one side posed where the lynch mob will stop at once encouraged with immature sackings,” a well-placed source told the paper.

It is on record that several MPs allied to the DP including Kipchumba Murkomen have alleged that the fight against corruption is unfairly targetting those close to DP Ruto with an aim of painting him as a corrupt individual.
