Former University of Nairobi student leader ‘OCS’ Samuel Ragira was shot dead on Thursday evening at Club 36 market – the same area he claimed goons were harassing traders.
A look at his social media pages indicates that he was passionate about the market and was keen on fighting cartels that were threatening to take control of the area.
In his last Facebook post, Ragira stated that he would not allow goons to terrorise students and traders under his watch, further claiming that they had machetes and pistols.
“Now they want to grab Klabuu 36. Goons armed with pangas and pistols to scare people. It cannot happen,” he wrote a few hours before he met his death.

On Wednesday this week, he accused the outlawed Mungiki sect of demanding Sh10,000 from each trader to set up a business, something he strongly condemned.
He had called out on police to come to their rescue and indicated that he had reported the matter at Jogoo House but officers who came did not do much to salvage the situation.
“Are we managed by terrorists in the name of police? …We now appeal to the County government and National government to tell us who are these criminals. We cannot allow.
“Personally I was threatened by a panga. So where are we heading as a nation? Sad!” he said.

According to traders in the area, it is indeed true that a group of goons is giving them a torrid time and it is alleged that they ask for an amount that is equivalent to the space occupied by your business.
