Citizen Television news anchor Waihiga Mwaura on Thursday, February 14 surprised his wife, Joyce Omondi, with a bouquet of flowers and a basket of fruits at her work station.
Ms Omondi, a talk show host at Switch TV, was wrapping up her show – Full Circle with Joyce –, when Waihiga ambushed her on air with the pair of Valentine’s Day gifts.
A visibly shocked-yet-elated Ms Omondi asked the BBC award-winner what he had gone to do there.
Of course, she immediately understood that her partner’s gesture was triggered by the special day – February the 14th.
Ms Omondi, however, was unaware that the entire activity was being captured on video and beamed to the millions of viewers.
The show host went ahead to introduce Waihiga Mwaura as her husband – to those, who were not familiar with that fact.
Mr Mwaura is known to keep his love life as private as possible. However, this Valentine’s Day celebration was different from the previous ones.
“I just wanted to tell and show her how much I love her,” he told EDAILY on phone Thursday afternoon.
“I wouldn’t reveal more than that,” he added, before breaking into laughter.
Waihiga Mwaura, a journalist, and Ms Omondi, a gospel musician-cum-TV host, exchanged wedding vows in December, 2015.
