Kiambu Governor Waititu Baba-Yao insists he has no time to mend fences with his Nairobi counterpart who he has been embroiled in a bitter exchange of words with.

“Huyo mtu wa kurekodi masimu sisemi naye lolote… hatumtaki huku./That man who records phone calls and reports people, I have nothing to share with him…we don’t want him these sides” He was overheard.

The two governors, Sonko and Waititu, have been friends for so long, however, the two neighbors seem to be having lots of differences this time round. Governor Waititu has always condemned Sonko for his recent policies introduced in the city.

They are managing counties that seem to have influence in each other politically, socially and politically. War of words accompanied by leaked phone conversation has always ignited the fierce battle between the two governors.(Translated) “Everyone should keep away from Sonko. If you see him approaching you, just know he has a recording device on himself. Run away from him immediately.” Waititu is reported to have angrily remarked.

All these started when Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko banked on the demolition of all buildings that were built in Riparian land in his county. His Kiambu counterpart became infuriated and though that Sonko’s policy of demolishing houses was not a good idea.Sonko, however, has always asked his Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu, to keep off the city county’s affairs. He even accused Waititu of copying him in CATs and exams.

Mr. Waititu late last year created a buzz in social media when he suggested that instead of bringing down buildings worth billions of shillings, the Nairobi regeneration team should consider moving the river. Waititu’s unyielding explanation that courses of rivers should instead be bent where applicable to avoid destruction of property not only smacks of impunity, but it is also laughable. And Nairobi County Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, has not made the situation any easier for Waititu, his longtime political buddy, and he did the unthinkable when he recorded a phone conversation with Waititu and made it viral, an episode that created a ‘snitch’ tag on the Nairobi Governor.
