Glowing tributes for six dusitD2 employees who lost their lives

Family and friends on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to six dusitD2 hotel employees who were killed during the 14 Riverside attack.

Beatrice Mutua, Bernadette Konjalo, Erickson Mogaka, Trufosa Nyaboke, Dedricks Lemisi and Zachary Nyambwaga were described as committed, selfless and diligent.

“Last week, our dusitD2 family, 14 Riverside as a whole and the country at large fell victim to a senseless and unjust act of terror. Just over a week later we remember and will never forget the six beautiful lives taken from us so cruelly. We honour their courage and bravery for putting themselves in harm’s way to save others,” Ami Levkov, one of the dusitD2 managers said.

Ms. Levkov further said that dusitD2 will always remain a symbol of tenacity, unbowed. She revealed that they would rebuild the hotel and “come back with more radiance than ever before.”

The six dusitD2 employees were killed while trying to save their colleagues from the terrorists. 700 people were rescued on the ill-fated day.

On Tuesday, mourners gathered at the Consolata Shrine in Nairobi to pay their last respects to the brave six.

Tourism PS Joe Okudo condoled with family and friends saying the government recognises them as heroes.

While reading a speech on behalf of his boss CS Najib Balala, Mr. Okudo maintained that Kenya will not be cowed by terrorists as it remains a preferred destination for visitors.

According to him, the attack was not only to the hotel, business complex and Kenya, but an attack on humanity.

“We must find a way, together, to put this to an end. It has no place in this world, it has no place for us. We condemn it and we will do everything necessary to see that this comes to an end and all those involved in any way will be punished,” he said.

Another memorial service for six other brave employees from Cellulant was held on Tuesday at CITAM Valley Road.
