Last messages ex-MMU student, Susan Njoki, sent friends before her death

Former Multimedia University student Susan Njoki asked one of her friends what her New Year’s Eve plan was shortly before she [Njoki] was allegedly run over by an unknown vehicle in Ruiru, Kiambu County, on December 30, 2018.

Prior to boarding a matatu to Ruiru, where she had gone to hunt for a house ahead of her impending relocation from Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, Susan Njoki, 24, was last was last seen in Nairobi’s central business district at 11pm after reporting to work earlier in the day.

She worked as worked as a products promotion agent, and on December 30, she had gone for a “gig” in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

According to Ms Njoki’s elder brother, Suleiman Ngige, the ex ex-MMU student spoke to at least two people on the fateful night.

“Her workmate, whom we have spoken to, told us that the last conversation she had with Njoki, was when Njoki inquired if she had found a matatu home,” Mr Ngige told EDAILY on January 10.

The other person that Susan Njoki spoke to on the night of December 30, besides her workmate was a friend, whom she greeted via text message.

“Her friend, whom she texted on December 30, told us that she inquired how she [friend] was doing; and by the time her buddy was responding, she had already gone offline,” said Mr Ngige.

“She had texted her friend on phone, saying: “Form ya New Year ni gani? [What are your New Year plans?] Her pal responded, but her [pal’s] messages to her weren’t delivered. When Njoki’s friend called her later at midnight, her phone calls to her weren’t going through,” added Mr Ngige.

According to the deceased’s brother, none of their family members spoke to Ms Njoki on the fateful day.

Mr Ngige says there’s a possibility Susan Njoki was run over by a hit-and-run motorist.

“Preliminary investigations show that she was run over by a vehicle, which left her dead on December 31. Her body, according to the morgue attendant, who I spoke to, was taken to the facility by a police van from Juja station at 3am on New Year’s Eve,” said Mr Ngige in a shaky voice.

Susan Njoki’s body was found lying at Nairobi’s City Mortuary on Monday, January 14, Mr Ngige said.

Ms Njoki had spent her Christmas holiday with her family in Njoro, Nakuru County.

The missing girl returned to Nairobi on December 27 ahead of the job she was to report to on December 30.

She stayed with her friend and cousin in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

“By the time of her return to Nairobi, none of her roommates was present, given they had traveled home for the end of year holidays,” said Mr Ngige.

“She was also planning to relocate from Ongata Rongai to Ruiru, and had already gotten a new house to move into. She was only waiting for mum to send her money for house deposit on January 2,” added the deceased’s brother.

-NJOKI COULD NOT GO FOR MORE THAN TWO DAYS WITHOUT CALLING FAMILY-

Mr Ngige, in a past interview with EDAILY, said it was “uncharacteristic” of his sister to go for days without getting in touch with at least one of her family members.

“We are completely devastated. My parents are badly affected. Njoki has never gone for more than two days without calling us on phone. Even when she loses her phone, she always finds a way of reaching us. It is eleven days today since she was last seen, and we have not even heard a single word from her. That is very uncharacteristic of Njoki,” said Mr Ngige on January 10.

-MS NJOKI’S RELATIONSHIP-

The distressed brother said he only learnt about his sister’s relationship with an “Arab guy” on January 8.

“I have asked around [from her friends] if she was in a relationship, and I just learnt that she was seeing an Arab guy. I understand that the relationship was only one-and-a-half months old, when she disappeared. Her friends do not know the name of the guy, or where he exactly lives. They only know that he is a resident of Nairobi,” said Mr Ngige.

Susan Njoki’s family had filed reports about her disappearance at Njoro Police Station and Central Police Station in Nakuru.
