Popular Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi has responded to claims that Fredrick Sagwe Onyancha, a suspect in the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) corruption scandal, is his “wealthy neighbour” who flies a chopper “every day.”
The comedian, who lives in Green Park Estate, Athi River, said he was shocked to read about the story of Onyancha.
“I live at Green Park estate in Athi River, and I am quite shocked to read about Mr Onyancha’s story. Yes, I ranted about a man whose choppers produce noise that causes discomfort in the neighbourhood, I am not sure if the same man is Mr Onyancha, though I usually see two choppers parked on a field located in the estate," he told Edaily.
In February this year, Omondi took to social media where he claimed that the aircraft was interfering with tranquillity in the neighbourhood.
“The man, who owns the choppers leaves quite early in the morning and returns in the evening. He flies the aircraft nearly on a daily basis. His home is located a few meters from mine,” said Omondi .
Onyancha, 39, was on Monday described by his friends as a "private man who loves the finer things in life".
Those finer things include eight townhouses in the upmarket Green Park estate off the road to Mombasa at Athi River, where he lives with his young family.
A modern villa townhouse at the estate costs upwards of Sh35 million, according to the developer's website.
