Akorino faithfuls in Embu County have protested the suggestion that they be removing their turbans while taking pictures to be used on their identity cards and passports.

The devotees further opposed calls to have them get rid of the turbans while riding boda bodas in the county.

The Akorino adherents claim the move, if approved, would be discriminating against their faith.

Chairman of Akorino faithfuls in Embu County, Bishop Selesio Rutere, said those pushing for them to ditch the headwear are “jealous of the religion”.

Rutere vowed to continue leading Akorino votaries, including school-going children, in embracing the headgears.

Akorino followers, who work as boda boda operators in Embu, said they would never discard the turban for a helmet.
