All was set for Joyce Waithera and PAul Waithaka’s wedding last weekend at Mizpah House of Prayer Church in Bahati, Nakuru County.
Friends and family were ready to join the couple as they walked down the aisle and thereafter to a union of marital bliss.
But it was not to be- the pastor in charge cancelled the much-awaited wedding on the very last minute, throwing everything into disarray.
The bride’s father told a local publication that they had arrived at the church at around 11am and were looking forward to a great day.
At the church, the old man says that there was just a choir singing and no preparation for the wedding were in place.
When the pastor arrived, he summoned the couple to his office and demanded that they go for a HIV test.
The couple returned at around midday with the results but he sent them back to a hospital that he recommended.
At around four oclock when the second round of results came in, the preacher called the couple, their family and a twaddle of their friends to his office.
He tore open the envelope and was reportedly unable to read through the jargon and summoned a local health practitioner to come to the office and interpret the results.
At this point the congregation was livid and was threatening to storm the office where the pastor was sitting.
Around six in the evening, the preacher said it was too late to officiate the wedding and called the police after guest attempted to break into his office.
Several people were arrested in the aftermath even as family of the couple threatened to take legal action against the preacher.
Guests who had come to the wedding later went to a feast at the bridegrooms house with sources close to the family saying the whole wedding had cost them around KSh 1 million
During a church service yesterday, the preacher said that the couple did not meet the church’s expectations that guide marriage, birth and funerals.
