Irungu Kibiru, Equity Bank Manager Accused Of Sexual Harassment On Interns Fired

Irungu Kibiru, the manager at Equity Bank accused of sexually harassing interns at the Equity leadership programme has been fired.
The case was highlighted by the students in the Facebook group, and later exposed early August this year.
In a statement, the bank confirmed that the manager made inappropriate advances at some female interns on the Equity Leaders Programme.
“The Group has taken necessary measures in line with its policies and procedures, including disciplinary measures, and in some cases termination/separation of employment of certain staff,” said David Ansell, the group chairman designate.
The leadership team convened a board governance committee meeting after the expose and several complains from the interns, which resolved and created an institutional framework to address the concerns raised.
“The structure was communicated to the interns through their group’s Facebook pages. They were invited to come forward with information so that their concerns could be addressed within the stipulated framework,” read the statement.
Kibiru was the most mentioned executive of the bank in the scandal.
“Philemon (Irungu) Kibiru has been mentioned by a number of scholars as one of the culprits in the Equity Bank/ Equity Group Foundation sexual harassment, abuse and assault,” says one of the members of the group, who seemingly was a victim.
