
Sarah Hassan took on the ‘Wedding Show’ mantle of from Noni Gathoni in 2014 who left Citizen to pursue her dream of creating her wedding show with Baileys.
Sarah hosted the show for a year before unexpectedly moving on to ‘Mashariki Mix’. Her departure was met with disappointment from fans and they were even allegations in the blogosphere that she had been axed.
She has now spoken of her unexpected exit from the Citizen TV show in an interview with True Love Magazine.
“My producer on the show as amazing. They’d shoot three or four weddings and I would do the links for them. My contract was for one year and after that, I moved to Mashariki Mix which I hosted with Jokate Mwegelo. It was an interesting time, I loved it,” she told the magazine.
Her decision to join ‘Mashariki Mix’ and later ‘Maisha Max’ proved rewarding to her CV as she bagged the award for Best East African Journalist at the Swahili Fashion Week in Dar es Salaam.
New York Film Academy
As she was at the peak of her career, Sarah dropped everything and moved to LA to pursue her dream of studying Film at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.
“From when I was young, in school and was able to understand film and TV, I always wanted to go to Film school specifically New York Film Academy in Los Angeles to learn and understand more, but some dreams take longer to accomplish. Immediately I started to work, I started saving up for school fees and two years ago, I started filling out my application. Every other day I used to look at my application and work harder,” she wrote in her blog.
Her schooling in LA proved rewarding as she bagged two Festigious Awards for a film she starred in called ‘The Company You Keep’. After winning the Award, Sarah moved back to Kenya and is now working putting the skills she learnt there to good use as a producer and lead actress in ‘Shujaa’, a Kenyan film.
