For 19 years, celebrated media personality Njambi Koikai battled period pain not knowing there was more to it.
Njambi, who is still undergoing treatment in the US, has been keeping her fans posted on her progress.
On her recent post on social media, Njambi revealed how tough the journey has been for the last three years.
Scared
“My biggest achievement is BREATHING. I've been praying for God to restore my lungs and diaphragm. Every breath i take is a golden moment. I strive to remember that every time because for me breathing normally has not been possible for the last 3 years. There's nothing more scary than being unable to breathe.” Read part of her post on her Instagram page.
Njambi recounts how painful her periods were as a teen to an extent that she wished they could be removed. According to her post, she has never had a painless life and she has also been dealing with trauma.
Multiple surgeries
So far, Njambi has undergone 15 surgeries and remains hopeful that she will finally defeat endometriosis.
She also appealed to her fans to help her raise Sh2.6 million for her treatment.
The scary condition (endometriosis) is characterized by heavy and painful periods and could also affect the lungs making it hard to breathe. If left untreated, it affects the reproductive system and could lead to infertility.
